A Treasured Possession, Choice and Precious

“Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be My treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is Mine; and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel." Exodus 19:5-6

“And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God, you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” -1 Peter 2:4-5

Greetings Brothers and Sisters,

God told Israel that they were His “treasured possession, a kingdom of priests and a holy nation”…if they obeyed His voice and kept His covenant. By faith in Christ and God bringing together Jew and Gentile, we too are His “treasured possession, kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”

God also describes us as a “living stone” that is “choice and precious” in His sight, and that we are “being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood.”

I think these marvelous attributes (that have been given by Him) demonstrate how much He loves us and how valuable we are to Him. These attributes however serve a purpose and that purpose is that God’s people, His precious bride would be so radically different from those that are around them that they would stand out. But not stand out in a way that is unappealing, but in a way that draws others into His kingdom. And the only way that is going to happen is if we are truly SET APART. Are we a holy nation?

Think of yourself and think of us as being that beautiful castle and kingdom in the distance that everyone marvels at and wants to journey towards. We are to be that city, castle and kingdom on a hill that allows us to stand out so that God’s glory will be seen and that will draw others in.

So are you and are we truly SET APART? There are a variety of ways in which we are to be SET PART: what we think, what we do, how we act, how we look, what we see, what we listen to, how we dress and how we speak. All of these ways are to be radically different than the world around us. Not so that we will appear kooky, but “holy, choice and precious.”

Tomorrow we will continue with one of the ways that we are to be SET APART and that way is our speech and words. We will show Part 3 of “War of Words” with Paul Tripp. So come prepared with hears to hear.

Also, remember to bring your praises and prayer requests and don’t be hesitant about sharing your true needs for prayer. Our hearts and our needs are to be transparent! If you have a Psalm that you would like to read during our Psalm readings, please do so. If you have another scripture reading, please share that during our sharing time. And brothers, if you have a short teaching that you would to share, please come prepared.

Remember to bring some food for our communal meal and make sure that you are spiritually prepared to the take the Lord’s Supper in a worthy way.

In Christ,
